Mol Balam is a crater of more than 100 meters in diameter. The age of this karst phenomenon is between 60 and 80 million years.
It is one of the thousands of these craters found in the area. Mol Balam morphology reminds us of ancient Labnaha expeditions: Uxben Nah Iloob (The house of the ancestors), Tuchaa, Pelanuscus and Sastun.
Some scholars of the subject say that these craters were formed by the impact of the famous meteorite we ve all heard of. Impact that 65 million years ago causes the disappearance of the dinosaurs. The period was the Paleocene, which in Greek means beginning of recent times and is the first period of the Tertiary or Cenozoic era characterized by the appearance of a large number of mammals.
In this crater there are two cenotes that They are the workhorse of this expedition.
Cenote Mol Balam (Jaguar Footprint)
LukZonot (Cenote with Mud)
One is about 40 meters from the other, one to the North and the other South of the Crater.
