Cenote Bolom-Chojol

The spectacular Bolom-Chojol cenote (also written as Bolochohool) is located a few kilometers south of Cuzamá, a small town located about 50 kilometers from the city of Mérida in a southwesterly direction.

The cenote can only be arrive by truck, a rudimentary train car pulled by a horse, so we will have to leave the car in the parking lot that is about 7 kilometers from the cenote. Bolonchojool is the last stop of 3 places that are visited with the excursion and it is probably also the most spectacular.

The cenote is covered by a large vault with several holes that allow the sun s rays to pass through creating light effects spectacular. In the center of the vault is the largest hole through which poplar roots hang and touch the water. The color of the water is blue, it is 30 meters long by 20 meters wide and has a maximum depth of 20 meters.

To get to the water you have to go down a ladder of those that are scary but once below , a spectacular landscape straight out of the Indiana Jones movie awaits you. The photos (at least ours) do not do it justice and the cenote does not seem like anything from another world but we assure you that seeing it live is very different
