Cenote Aktun Chen

Cenote Aktun Chen

It is a natural park located less than 50 kilometers from Playa del Carmen. In a natural environment of great beauty, the park offers activities such as snorkeling in its underground river, observation of native flora and fauna and zip lines

The park has a network of underground caverns, some dry and others flooded. The landscape seen when descending is imposing, and the geological history of the planet can be read on the walls.

As the caves are naturally ventilated, they do not cause a feeling of confinement. Due to the low difficulty of the route, anyone can visit the main cave. It is a large space 600 meters long formed by the erosive action of water. The site is full of stalactites and stalagmites that create landscapes from another world.

In the underground river, visitors can explore the water currents by swimming and snorkel in the company of a specialized guide and with safety equipment. The great transparency of the water and the careful artificial lighting allow us to observe the rock formations at the bottom, of incredible shapes and colors.

The cenote, for its part, offers a view of extraordinary beauty but it is not allowed to bathe in it , since due to the delicacy of its soil the waters get muddy very easily.

On the surface, the park protects an area of approximately 180 hectares of jungle and functions as a center for the protection and reproduction of different species of autochthonous fauna. In the tours of the trails it is possible to see animals such as parakeets, parrots, flying squirrels and even primates. In addition, Aktun Chen offers an impressive zip line tour of more than 1500 m in length at 10 meters in height, only suitable for adventurers.
